Melvin Suen, Principal and Founder

My motivation for recruiting is simple: I want to help the people around me become better.

I've had great mentors that helped me work towards a fulfilling career. I was also taught the gift (and power) of paying it forward early in my life. Helping others realize their full potential is why we started Plus10.

Many people consider only indirect motivators when finding a new job: money and title. But there are far bigger indicators of your growth and success: what you do, who you work with, and what you take away from the role. This is what we discuss in our conversations with people, every day.

My first experience of mentorship was with my kungfu master, Kenneth Liu. Kenneth was pivotal in my life: he taught me discipline, decision-making, and what I consider to be my most valuable life lesson: paying it forward.

My professional background is in management consulting and executive coaching. I started my career at IBM before joining Accenture as a Management Consultant. Prior to starting Plus10, I managed sales with Strategic Coach, a premier business coaching company for successful entrepreneurs.

I started Plus10 to help leaders reflect on how they grow and manage their teams.

Young people are our future. That’s why I’m also passionate about youth capacity building.

In 2011, I founded the Management Consulting Alumni Program at the University of Toronto, helping hundreds of students start their career in consulting. I also volunteer as an Advisor with Junior Achievement, where I’ve been recognized as a top advisor in Ontario for three consecutive years.

In my free time, you can find me on Lake Ontario, coaching high-performance dragon boating teams. Our club has won national titles and represented Canada in the 2018 World Championships, winning two gold medals.
